spitting | Autism PDD

Boy do I remember those days!  I remember Tony went through a phase of spitting... particularly onto the TV.  I honestly can't remember how we got him past it but I do remember wondering WHY he did it in the first place.

Sharlet does this ALL THE TIME!!   She also spits saliva.  Yeah it gets annoying Hi all,

My 5 year and 3 month old son has started this new thing, where he takes whatever it is he's drinking, and spits it out on the floor.  Sometimes he does a "raspberry" with the liquid, and it sprays everywhere.  Other times he just lets it dribble out of his mouth and watches it fall.  It is really aggravating, because I will try and discipline him, take it away, etc., but he continues to do it.   I don't think he does it to annoy me, because he even does it when alone in the other room.

I don't know if it's a new stim, or just naughty behavior.  Any suggestions?

I personally think it is a stim.  My 3 1/2 year old does this as well, but his latest thing is to take a drink, go to the tv and spit all over it.  Over and over and over.  He doesn't understand yet what is wrong and what is not, so what I do is put the cups up real high and when he wants a drink, I give him a little at a time, that way there is little temptation to continue to do this.  Only when I give him a full cup will he drink some and then spit every thing else.

They keep us on our toes, don't they?  I'm exhausted...
Wow my sos who is 3 and has PDD also does this he just started about 2 weeks ago and he also does this anywhere he is.. I am not sure when an dif this wwill stop but i am hoping because i have to keep cleaning my floor all day.. Yes, they do keep us on our toes.  My living room looks like a tornado hit it.....

I have all my nice christmas stuff out, and matty has one by one, thrown them, knocked them over, thrown the pot purri everywhere.  I just leave it until he goes to sleep, clean it, and he'll do it all over again tomorrow.
I wish he would play with toys or something to entertain himself.

I just don't know what to do with him.  He doesn't like books, crayons, toys, tv.

The only thing he likes is "wrestling" games.  Rough and tumble stuff.  My son (13) usually plays with him, but he can't wrestle all day.

He is a tough one to figure out!!

THis is interesting.  My NT children did this as toddlers and Adam skipped this stage along with a lot of others that he has develped later.  Wondering if this could be a late developmental milestone?

My son started this at 3 (and enjoyed spitting into the TV like Souljens little one does).  We also tried discipline, but four TV's and quite a few messes later the only thing that worked was similar to Souljen which was us keeping control of the cup.  When he wanted a drink he had to stand in front of us (facing us) and we would tell him to swallow when it was apparent that he was holding the fluid in his mouth.  We also gave him a "spitting outlet" by letting him brush his teeth and spit as much as he wanted (there is a flouride-free "training" toothpase available) in the sink (he would spend a lot of time with a cup "rinsing"), and telling him that it was the only appropriate time for spitting.  For a bit of encouragement for you--he did eventually stop (although he still loves to brush and rinse). ;)

It will pass, my son went thru this over the summer and now we're on to other things and the spitting is over. Anthony is in a spitting/rasberry stage.  It drives me crazy.  He does it alot when he's angry.Maybe he is imitating something he had seen on TV? Michael did that for awhile and I thought it was a stim until I realized it was a scene from "Madagascar" where the animals drink sea water and spit it. I didn't realized it until one day he spat water out on TV and said "sea water". So I took the movie away and did not let him watch the show and the spitting stopped.
