Britax Regent | Autism PDD

Wow! I wonder why more people haven't recommended that one? I would love to know what Consumer Reports says about the Safety 1st one if anyone has access to that. I'm starting to wish I hadn't ordered the Regents - which haven't come yet by the way! I'm sure I'll love them, but it sounds like there may have been less pricey alternatives!

I have to give Britax a little plug myself.  We went from the Marathon (still available for a good price) to the Britax Monarch Booster Seat and I just love love love them.  I feel safer knowing that my little one is in one.  Not sure about fitting in your car but I can attest that the Marathons are quite bulky.  The Monarch isn't as bulky as it is tall.

Karman

Just checked it out - only the Sahara patterned one is on sale for the same price. We ordered the Onyx pattern - which is 9.95. The Onyx ones are 9.99 at babyage.com plus .97 shipping/handling. I didn't like the Sahara one because of the light-colored arms - I figures that would get REALLY dirty!

snoopywoman,

I have a BMW 325i.  I've already tried the Britax and they don't fit.  (I tried 20 different car seats - running from the store to the parking lot like a madwoman with the floor models before I found something).  I also have an Acura MDX and I can fit a Britax on one side (behind me) but not the other (behind dh).  Contributing factor is my dh is 6' 3" with long legs and his seat needs to be as far back as it can go and reclined quite a bit.  If I have a seat that is too large behind dh, there is no room for a child's legs between the child seat and dh's seat.  And, if that isn't enough, I can't ask dh to just suck it up and scrunch because he had 3 knee surgeries on his right knee in 2003 (basketball - ugh - crutches for a YEAR) and scrunching up that leg isn't an option for anything other than a trip around the block.

OK, that's my sad tale of woe...

snoopy woman, do you have the youtube link? Does the Regent work ONLY with a Latch system? Our van does not have a Latch system.
We have a ford windstar- do you think it will fit?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azgBhZfcqaQ

Sevenup - do I read your signature right in that you will soon have SEVEN kids? Wow - that is amazing for you to take on! I'm adopted by the way

Has anyone used the Safety 1st Apex??? It appears to be comparable but less expensive.    Or should I spend the extra 0 and go for the Britax.

My Anthony is fine in his booster with the lap belt on.

It's his enormous baby brother, better known around our house as fatty booba latty, chubby bubs or chubilicious.  He will be 2 the end of this month and weighed in at 36 lbs at his 18 month check up.  YIKES!  He'll be hitting that 40 lb mark soon and I need to buy something!!

Well, you might want to watch the YouTube video I posted in this thread. In addition, the Regent will go up to 80 pounds and 53 inches, so you can have it for a LONG time. Consider it an investment. The woman who made the YouTube video posted one other carseat that goes up to 80 pounds and has a five-point harness. I can't remember what it was though - it's in the info right next to the video.Found it! But, it's the Radian80 by Sunshine kids. It costs about the same as the Regent - actually a bit more. But the Britax is on sale for 9.99 plus .95 s/h at www.babyage.com right now! It's pricey but I look at it as peace of mind and a long-term investment in my children's safety.By the way, I don't work for Britax - but I feel like I maybe should be in a commercial for them or something the way I'm advertising for them...

22 inches wide (I believe this is at the widest part)

22 1/2 inches deep

30 1/4 inches tall

30 pounds (it is VERY heavy).

The key is that you probably can't have two carseats right next to each other if one is the Regent. So, if you have a bench seat which fits 3 - it will probably only fit the Regent and one other carseat - both on opposite sides. Or the Regent carseat and one other person buckled in. If you have captain's seats (like our Odyssey does) - it will probably only work if you can slide them apart a bit - which you can on our Odyssey. We have a path in between the seats as opposed to having the two together (we used to have that until dd was born!).

Somewhere on this thread is a link you can click in to plug in what year your vehicle is and the name of the carseat you are looking to buy. It relies solely on parental input - so if no one has responded, you won't get info. But, someone suggested also putting in the Britax Husky as it is similar.

Hope this helps!

snoopywoman39337.2966898148Cool! I still haven't gotten our seats yet so I don't know how they will be. My ds is the same way - very tall and a VERY long torso. You have to worry when the tops of their ears are gettin close to the top of the carseat, is what I was told by a Mayo carseat safety expert. But, she also told me that our Marathon would only last us about 6 months when he had just turned 4 and he is 6 1/4 years old! Some asked about height limits.  Heres an pdf file of the manual from Britax.  Weight limit is between 22 to 80 lbs, and height limit is less than 53 inches.  Note that for children over 50lbs, use of the top tether is required.  I had to install tether anchors in my '97 Civic.
Dad2Luke&Alan39346.9803935185Snoop - the height limit on the Safety 1st is 57 inches.

I purchased this seat at Babies R Us last night.  It's very comfy and is harness rated to 65 lbs.  It was 9.

http://www.safety1st.com/product.asp?productID=2599

I read alot of great reviews on it.  A few things people were pleased with were the adjustable crotch strap, the adjustable head rest, their children said it was very comfortable and for some reason the straps don't get all twisted up.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to post this in case anyone was looking for a less expensive 65lb seat.

That's cool - I wonder what height it goes up to? My ds is tall and nowhere close to 65 pouncs, but has almost grown out of his Britax Marathon - which goes up to 65 pounds. Which is why we recently ordered the Regent!

Wish I would have seen that though - I might have gone to Babies 'R Us to check it out!

Snoop -

I don't know about the height.  I'll look at it when I go home and let you know.  It is a large seat, that's for sure.  I took it out of the box last night so Dominic could sit in it and I could adjust the straps to fit him before I put it in the car.  So, tonight I'll try to get it in the car.  I told DH not to throw out the box today just in case it doesn't fit properly in the car.  Although, it's a minivan and it's going into a captain's seat so it should be fine.

I just noticed on Wednesdsay when we he was in current car seat that his noggin is already up to the top of that seat.  YIKES.  He isn't even two.  He's 95 percentile for height (and off the charts for weight).  All my boys have always been above 90 in height and weight but Dominic has short legs and a long trunk so when he sits down he he's "taller" than his brothers were at the same age.  KWIM?  This seat is nice and tall (his head is just above the middle of the seat and the head rest is adjustable so it can go further up).

ETA - Anthony had a turn sitting in it also and he still had room to grow in it.  Then Frankie had his turn LOL and my very tall 8 year old Frankie fit in it too.  Both of them said it was very comfortable.

We're not planning on taking it on an airplane for sure! We have a little booster seat that I would take for an airplane - but not planning on doing that any time this century!

They don't have replacement covers for the Regent by the way and you do NOT use the LATCH system with kids over 48 pounds. But there IS a tether which provides extra coverage in case the seat belt doesn't work. And, the five-point harness keeps them in the seat as opposed to throwing them out.

The person who made the YouTube video now is starting a non-profit organization to help those families who cannot afford one of these seats BTW. I thought that was pretty neat - I don't know if I could do that if my son was killed. They are amazing people.

Yes we just brought our 3 1/2 yr old a regent and gave her little sister her marathon.  It's bigger but still fits in our toyota just fine.  We love both!  We just bought it 2 wks ago, wish I would have known about the sale, we bought them online and saved on no tax and no shipping at least.  Oh yeah, you can not use the regent on airplanes but we never travel by plane but thought I would mention it. Hi,
I own a Regent but not a Honda Odyssey.  Yes, the Regent is large and heavy compared to other car seats.  It is also a handful getting in/out of a car since it is large.  We have a Regent in a '97 Honda Civic (no LATCH).  What I notice is that it is tall (but it needs to be to be a good headrest), and wide.  But once it is in place it is not too bad.  The height blocks vision out the back a bit.  We have a Husky in a '02 CR-V and it fits fine.  We tried the Husky in an '04 Accord, and it did not fit well.  The top tether attachment in the Husky was too low and the top of the car's seat interfered with it.  The top tether on the Regent is higher and would fix this problem.

Here's a web site where parents can post what seats fit into their cars.  Maybe they have something.  Also the Husky is similar, you might check and see how those fit, too.

Incidentally, there was a recall on the Regents recently that requires replacement of the LATCH belt, a new manual and some non-skid feet on the seat.  It might be an idea to find out if these are old or new stock, if you do not want to have to deal with it, particularly if you plan on using the LATCH belt.

Well, I ordered it. We need it soon or I would have waited. I found out that sometimes you can get new Britax car seats through the BabyAge store on eBay - for a lot less! But, they didn't have a Regent and when I looked at feedback - it looked like they almost never sold those. Although a mom e-mailed me that she had just purchased one for 5 including shipping there. Roundabouts are really cheap - like 9.99 plus .99 shipping if you "Buy It Now". I didn't see many Marathons - but it doesn't hurt to look! They have other carseats as well. Just a tip!

I'm not trying to advertise or anything - you all know I post here all the time. I just love to pass on to others a good deal when I find it! And I know how much money we all spend on our kiddos - so it's good to get a good deal.

I just plunked down about 5 for 2 car seats - but I made half of that at our garage sale this last weekend, and this will give me peace of mind (something I don't often have!).

I will register it as soon as I get it and they automatically tell you if there is a recall. We are not going to be using the LATCH as my son is just past the 48 pound limit for using the LATCH system. We will use the tethers instead.

Thanks for the info!

Oh! Thanks for suggesting entering the Husky because it came back that it was a great fit for the Odyssey. My Roundabout was VERY hard to put in there rear-facing. Harder to put in the Oldsmobile as well. Once it was forward-facing it was fine, but I remember having to have the front passenger seat pulled up as far as it could go. It probably wasn't safe because if the air-bag deployed I would have been in trouble! I usually just rode in the back if dh was driving instead.

Hi all! A few things:

www.babyage.com has ALL Britax carseats on sale right now -  and I want a Britax Regent for my ds. It is .00 off and shipping is only .95! Even if you order two (which I'm considering so I don't have to move it between vehicles - it is supposed to be VERY heavy!

Does anyone have one of these and how do you like it? Most importantly - does anyone have one of these AND a Honday Odyssey or Oldsmobile Intrigue? I want to make sure that it will be compatible as I have read that it isn't always compatible with all cars. The Intrigue isn't really small, it's mid-size, but I just wonder if it would fit.

Anyway, take advantage of the sale! After watching that YouTube video about booster seats - I'm keeping both kids in a 5-point harness as long as they fit into them! This one goes up to 53 inches. Ds is at 48 inches right now, but I think this should still hold him until he's 8 (I hope!). I will feel better having him in a booster seat after that, I think - although he probably won't hit 80 pounds until he's 10 at least with him being so skinny (I have no idea how he stays so skinny since he eats more than either my dh or I!).

Someone posted a site where you could try to find out compatibility of your car with a certain type of carseat - but I tried it at that time and it didn't work. Anyone know of any other place to go to find out? Thanks!

We have a Britax marathon car seat, which is very similar to the Regent.
We have bought A LOT of car seats in the last 11 years.  Hopefully we can afford this brand from now on out, because I am VERY impressed with it.
As far as fit, imo, it isn't an issue unless you are lining up lots of seats next to each other.  FWIW, we have 2 Marathons next to each other in the mid row of a Kia Sedona and its in the latch system and fits fine.

We have a Marathon. The Regent is supposed to be MUCH bigger and even Britax cautions that it won't fit in some vehicles. I just talked to Britax and they don't have a compatibility list, but they did say that it should fit in mid-size sedans and vans as long as you don't have them right next to each other (which we don't). I'm a little leery about spending all that money on two if I'm not sure, but I suppose I could try to go to Babies 'R Us to see if it fits. I just don't want to have to get the carseat out and put it back in as I am really bad at doing that.

Guess I'll have to check babyage's return policy just in case! I'm worried they'll sell out!
